How To: Want Your Trello Card Back? No Probs! Here’s How You Retrieve an Archived Card

Q: I’ve accidentally archived a card (not sure how?!) and need it back. Where do I go to find it and how do I restore it to its rightful place on my board?

It is so easy to archive a Trello card. All you have to do is hit the “C” key when you’re in the card and it’s done. But don’t freak out if you hit that “C” key without meaning to. This post will explain how to find that card and put it back where it belongs in 5 small steps.

Here’s how you bring the card back to the board:

Step 1:

Click on the board’s “Show Menu” link

Step 2:

Click “More”

Step 3:

Choose “Archived Items”

Step 4:

Use the “Search Archive” field to lookup the card by its title or, if the number of archived cards listed is small enough, find your card

Step 5:

Below the card, you should see a “Send to Board” link. Click on it and Trello sends the card back to exactly where it was before the accidental archiving drama

A little extra:

If what you’re hoping to unarchive is a Trello list (instead of a Trello card),

  • Go through steps 1 – 3 above
  • Use the link provided alongside the “Search Archive” field to switch between searching for cards or lists
  • Pick up where you left off with step 4 and 5 above.
